July has been good for Ono (Wahoo) and Mahi Mahi for many of the boats. Not many large Blue Marlin have been reported this month, however, there was a very large 1,168 lb Blue Marlin caught in a tournament in June on the Island of Oahu. Boats have also reported some nice Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) catches, so the Ahi seem to be the largest fish being caught in July. Hopefully the Blue Marlin bite will pick up in August. August is usually the prime time for Ono, Ahi and Blue Marlin. On Kauai, bass guide Tom Christy has been catching largemouth bass primarily but with the warmer August weather, he hopes to see more Peacock Bass biting as that seems to be on many people’s bucket list to catch a Peacock.
