September Fishing Report

September was a productive month with a variety of species reported. There were plenty of Mahi Mahi reeled in with trips reporting multiple Mahi catches. Some nice large 100lb+ Ahi were brought in on several trips. Some trips were really busy with Blue Marlin, Ono, Skipjack, Ahi and Spearfish all in the same trip! Look for more Mahi to be around in October and into November as the fall is one of the best times in Hawaii for Mahi Mahi. On Kauai, freshwater guide Tom Christy has been landing some nice large mouth and small mouth bass. The Peacock bass have slowed for the season, but the large and small mouth action and the beautiful jungle like river scenery makes a trip with Tom worthwhile.

August Fishing Report

This nice Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) was brought in on the boat Magic on the Island of Oahu. Some nice Ahi’s have been caught this month as well as a good amount of Aku (Skipjack Tuna). The Mahi Mahi have also been striking with multiple catches reported in the 15-25lb range. Going into September we should see even more Mahi Mahi as they tend to bite in the fall months. On Kauai, the bass guide Tom has been catching some nice small mouth bass some up to 5lbs and nice large mouth bass up to 7lbs. He has also had some freshwater beracuda and freshwater papio.

July Fishing Report

July was pretty productive for Blue Marlin, Ahi (yellowfin tuna), Ono (wahoo) and Aku (skipjack tuna). We saw some really nice big Blue Marlin which are always exciting to battle! Look for similar catches in August as we are still in the summer season of Blue Marln and Ahi. On Kauai, bass fishing guide Tom Christy reported some really nice Largemouth Bass in the 5lb plus range. He also saw some really nice Peacock Bass but no one could get them to stay on.

June Fishing Report

We are seeing more nice Ahi this month, especially later in June so this should continue into July as summer is the best time for the large Ahi. Above photo is a nice 151lb Ahi caught on the Magic. We have also been getting some nice Ono (Hawaiian for Wahoo) which is also a good species in the summer months. Seeing some smaller skipjack tuna as well, which we call Aku. On Kauai Tom has been getting some nice sized large mouth bass. He has also seen some good peacock bass, which can be hard to land since they are such tough fighters. Come prepared to fight if you get a peacock hooked up and listen to Tom for tips to increase your chances of landing one.

May Fishing Report

May has been great for Mahi Mahi with some really nice ones reported all month long. We also saw some nice Ono (Wahoo), Striped Marlin, Aku (Skipjack Tuna) and a few Blue Marlin. Summer is almost here which usually brings more of the nice big Blue Marlin, so we should see some nice Blues as well as more Ono and large Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) as we get further into summer. On Kauai, bass guide Tom Christy has been having some amazing trips lately. He reports the water is crystal clear after all the flooding storms earlier in the month. Most likely due to the late spring storms, both the small mouth and large mouth bass are on beds now at the same time, which is unusual. Tom reports catching small mouth up to 5lbs and large mouth in the 3-8lb range. In late May he had a client hook up to a large Peacock Bass (estimated in the 8-10lb range). They saw the fish and the client fought it for about 5 minutes but then the fish sounded heading deep and ended up pulling the hook from its mouth. Yes, the one that got away story!! But nice to see such a large Peacock Bass biting this time of year. Hopefully the big one will get hooked again and pose for a photo for us!

April Fishing Report

This month saw some nice Mahi Mahi with multiple catches on trips. Mahi like to hang out together so if you can find a nice Mahi pile you can usually get multiple hook-ups which is a lot of fun!! We also saw some nice Ahi as well as Spearfish this month. Heading into May look for the Ono (Wahoo) to show up in better numbers. Blue Marlin usually start picking up a bit in May and into the summer months as well. Bass fishing on Kauai was washed out earlier in April with a big storm and flash flooding of the rivers, but after the storm debris cleared up Tom reported the waters were nice and clear. Tom reported some nice largemouth bass in the 5lb range and smallmouth in the 3lb range.

March Fishing Report

March is Mahi Mahi season and it’s already starting out with this nice catch! So far this month boats have reported striped marlin, spearfish, aku (skipjack tuna), ono (wahoo) and some nice mahi mahi. March is generally a good time of year for mahi, striped marlin and spearfish so we should see more of these throughout this month and into April. On Kauai, Tom the bass guide has reported some nice small mouth bass. Should see more good sized small and large mouth bass this month. Peacock bass probably won’t be biting until the summer.

January/February Fishing Report

This nice Mahi Mahi was caught off Oahu in early February. Large Mahi’s are such a cool looking fish!! Striped Marlin have also been reported with multiple catches on a trip. We have also seen a good amount of Aku (Skipjack Tuna) being caught with a dozen or more reported on some trips. February is usually a good time for Striped Marlin with Mahi Mahi coming in greater numbers in March. Bass fishing on Kauai has been good for small mouth bass lately. Tom reports some nice small mouth in the 4-5lb range.
