April has been great for Mahimahi so far. March and April are usually prime months for Mahimahi and some nice Mahi have been reported in the 25 lb plus range. Some smaller Mahi’s have also been reported with multiple catches on trips. Aku (skipjack tuna) have also been reported with multiple catches on trips, making for some fun reeling, especially for kids with these smaller fish. The highlight so far this month was a really nice 574 lb Blue Marlin (pictured above) brought in on the boat Magic off the Island of Oahu. Ono should start getting good as we get into May, we have had some catches already reported in late April.
Bass fishing was going great with large mouth and small mouth bass spawning at the same time a few weeks ago, but Kauai then had at least a week solid of rains and flash flooding at times, so Tom was not able to get out fishing much the past 2 weeks. Waters finally started clearing up from all the rains so Tom is hoping the bite will be on again for both small mouth and large mouth. Peacock bass usually don’t start biting well until the summer months.
